Call for Board Members

Friends of Ostomates Worldwide–USA (FOW-USA)

FOW-USA is seeking dedicated individuals to join our Board of Directors and help further our mission of providing ostomy supplies and support to those in need around the world.

We’re looking for individuals who:

Are passionate about improving lives of people with ostomies
Can commit time, expertise, and energy to support our mission
Are comfortable using email, Zoom, and basic digital tools (training provided)
Are willing to contribute financially each year (no minimum required)

Board Member Expectations

Serve a 2-year renewable term
Attend bi-monthly Board meetings and monthly committee meetings (via Zoom)
Join at least one committee or task force
Attend annual in-person meeting (as scheduled, travel self-funded)
Engage in timely communication and basic report writing
Annual Contribution: Make a yearly monetary donation to FOW-USA (amount is flexible).

Required Skills:

Basic computer skills to participate in meetings (Zoom), communicate via email, and manage attachments/documents.
Proficiency with Google Email and Google Drive (training and accounts provided).
Timely communication via email and organizational requests.
Ability to prepare reports using word processing software (e.g., Microsoft Word).

Preferred Skills:

Ability to read and use spreadsheets.

Committee Roles & Skill Sets

Public Relations

Write content for newsletters, social media, and marketing
Proofread materials
Represent FOW-USA at events and support groups (in person or online)
Ability to use PowerPoint

Shipping

Communicate with product recipients
Confirm addresses and logistics
Collaborate with warehouse staff to process and ship donations
Provide bi-monthly shipping reports

Fundraising

Write appeals, grants, and sponsorship requests
Build donor relationships

Education

Create and deliver educational content (e.g., ostomy care presentations)
Share content live or through recorded formats

Task Forces & Specialized Needs

Information Technology

Support use of Google Drive and email
Assist board members with tech access and file organization

Budget/Shipping

Evaluate and negotiate shipping costs

Volunteer Recruitment

Help identify and recruit volunteers and future board members
